A special attention is paid to research of the Ukrainian folklore at the Kyiv National University regardless of all ideological prejudices and prohibitions.

The team consists of 3 researchers, 9 postgraduates, 3 PhD, 7 PhD Candidates, 2 Assistants, 5 Associate Professors, 4 Professors, Bachelor and Master students.

We are focused on fundamental aspects of Ukrainian, Russian, Slavic and foreign folklore; heroic epic of peoples of the world; ethnic pedagogy; ethnic psychology; ethnic linguistics; ethnology; common law; philosophic, folklore and historical anthropology; mythology; vocal ensemble, voice training; stage speech; stage direction of folk holidays; ethics and aesthetics in folklore; folk arts; folk music; choreography; special courses and special workshops in folklore; folk culture etc.
Our group is aiming at improving the folklore disciplines, thus experts in anthropology, stage skills, choral singing are being invited.

Undergraduate and post-graduate students take part in activities of folklore and ethnography expeditions held by academic centers and foundations dealing with the issues of preservation and development of the Ukrainian folklore.

Future Projects and Goals

Folklore Department is working on the implementation of the UNESCO Convention "On the preservation of intangible cultural heritage". 

Methodological and Technical Expertise

The Folklore department is conducting a study of political folklore, folklore of opposition (Maidan folklore, ATO folklore in particular), myths in the media, post folklore, folklore of author’s texts.

4 PhD, 1 doctoral of the specialty 10.01.07 - folklore. The total number of publications – 108, 87 of them - scientific and 20 with educational and methodical nature, including 100 in professional journals, 3 publications abroad, 1 monograph, 1 textbook, 2 manuals, 1 collective scientific publication.
