Previous and Current Research

  • Linear interaction of polarized light with homogeneous and inhomogeneous anisotropic media.
  • Vector inverse problem of scattering.
  • Development of polarimetric matrix models for anisotropic media by Jones-Mueller formalisms.
  • Development and optimization of Stokes- and Mueller-polarimeters.
  • Imaging Mueller-polarimetry.

Group leader: Prof., Dr. Phys.-Math. Sci. Sergey Savenkov

  • At the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in the Laboratory of Laser Polarimetry there are carried out works on creation and development of polarimetric techniques of studying anisotropic and depolarization media within the frames of linear interaction, i.e. in conditions of non-destructive action of optical radiation on studied object. This involves creation of experimental measuring apparatus - Mueller polarimeters in various modifications, as well as building physical models of studied media on the basis of known matrix formalism by Mueller and Jones. In the sphere of interests of the group there are also problems related to optimization of operation of various schemes for polarimetric studies. The group advance the conception of adaptive Mueller-polarimetry that exploits an idea of dynamic optimization of polarimetric measurements in relying on predefined peculiarities of studied object.
  • The team consists of 4 researchers (Dr and 3 PhD), Bachelors and Master students.

Methodological and Technical Expertise

  •  We have an experience in creation of atomized 1D and Imaging Stokes-Mueller-polarimeters.
  •  We provide experimental polarimetric measurements in transmission, reflection and scattering mode.
  •  We have developed several generalized matrix models of homogeneous and inhomogeneous anisotropic media which are used to characterize dichroism or birefringence of media
