Iryna Izarova

Prof. Izarova’s postdoctoral research was related to the harmonization of Ukrainian and European civil procedure, she took part in the Consultative Committee of the ELI and Unidroit Project 'From Transnational Principles to European Rules of Civil Procedure'.

Nowadays, Prof. Izarova serves as an Editor-in-Chief of ‘Access to Justice in Eastern Europe’ Journal, ESCI. And a Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the 'Bulletin of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. Legal Studies'. She is a chair of the Ukrainian Regional Chapter of the European Association of Science Editors.

Prof. Izarova manages a few bilateral R&D projects (in particular, The Joint Ukrainian-Lithuanian R&D Project for the period of 2020-2021 ‘Strengthening of Alternative Dispute Resolution in Lithuania and Ukraine: Finding the Cross-Border Solution’ and The Ukrainian-Austrian R&D joint project for the 2021–2022 «Towards sustainable justice within current challenges: sharing best practice of civil and commercial disputes resolution and strengthening of Austrian-Ukrainian cooperation»).

Member of the European Law Institute, the European Association of Private International Law, the European Association of Science Editors, the Association of Ukrainian Editors.

Previous and Current Research

The Joint Ukrainian-Lithuanian R&D Project for the period of 2020-2021 ‘Strengthening of Alternative Dispute Resolution in Lithuania and Ukraine: Finding the Cross-Border Solution’ is the project of the Vilnius University, Lithuania and Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Ukraine. Co-heads of this project are professor Vytautas Nekrošius, head of the Private Law Department, Law Faculty of Vilnius University and professor Iryna Izarova, Law Faculty of KNU.

The main aims of this project are the following: to collect, analyze, summarize and prepare materials on the best Lithuania ADR practices for preserving, disseminating and broad discussing in Ukraine; to promote the rational application of the Lithuanian experience of ADR in Ukraine acquaintance with the most effective models for certain categories of disputes of a wider scale of interested entities; to promote innovation in research-based researching and teaching of ADR for their academic and professional lives.

In Ukrainian team there are three academics from Law School - Yurii Prytyka, Dr. of Legal Science, Professor, Head of the Civil Procedure Department, Oleh Zaiarnyi, Dr. of Legal Science, docent, Olena Terekh, PhD, assistant.

The Ukrainian-Austrian R&D joint project for the 2021–2022 «Towards sustainable justice within current challenges: sharing best practice of civil and commercial disputes resolution and strengthening of Austrian-Ukrainian cooperation» is the project of the Danube University Krems, Austria and Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Ukraine.

The main aims of this Project are sharing the results on the best EU and Austrian practices of effective resolution of civil and commercial disputes with particular attention to mediation and arbitration for preserving, broad discussing and appropriate implementation in Ukraine; to promote the rational application of the EU and Austrian experience of effective resolution of civil and commercial disputes in Ukraine etc.

Co-heads of this project are Dr. Gabriel M. Lentner, Assoc. Professor of International Law and Arbitration, Department Law and International Relations at Danube University Krems, and professor Iryna Izarova, Law Faculty of KNU.

Professor Yurii Prytyka and PhD Student Vladyslava Turkanova from KNU, are in Ukrainian team of this project.

Future Projects and Goals

We are intended for the future projects to achieve the following goals: contributing and helping the further development of rule of law and access to justice,  face the current challenges that accompany human globalization and law internationalization processes, in particular, the crisis of the transitional period and the economic crisis, unveiling pandemic etc; the particular attention paying to the issues related to Covid-19 impact on the access to justice; development of the international dissemination and better understanding of East European law, in particular, the law of post-soviet states from a transnational perspective and its further harmonization and approximation with the EU law; the  SDG 16 and ways to implement peace, justice and strong institutions in Eastern Europe for sustainable development; sustainable justice and its implementation; the public and private justice development, as well as e-justice development etc.

Methodological and Technical Expertise

The expertise may be provided in the rule of law and access to justice area, as well as las globalization and law internationalization processes, transitional justice issues, European law and the EU law, sustainable justice, public and private justice, e-justice development etc.
