Physical and dynamic properties of small bodies of the Solar system as indica-tors of their places of origin and evolution

Research Fields:
Astronomy

Previous and Current Research

  • Photometric, polarimetric, and spectral observations of comets, asteroids, planetary satellites.
  • Physical and dynamic characteristics of potentially dangerous for the Earth space bodies.

  • Physical properties of selected Solar system small bodies of different dynamic classes.

  • Linear and circular polarization in comets and its spatial distribution over the coma.

  • Coherent backscattering of light (weak localization of electrons): discovery of polarization opposition effect for high-albedo objects.

  • Development of theoretical models for the analysis of observational data for different types of anomalous meteors.

  • Ñreation of instrument for photometric, colorimetric, and spectral observations of meteors in different wavelength ranges.

Future Projects and Goals

  • Dust, gas, and plasma in comets

  • Long-term activity of comets and active asteroids

  • Morphological structure in the cometary atmospheres

  • Potentially dangerous asteroids

A comprehensive study of the physical, chemical, and dynamical properties of the Solar system small bodies of different dynamic classes, using the results of photometric, polarimetric, and spectral observations and numerical modeling to reveal features related to different regions of their formation in the Solar system or different evolution.

Methodological and Technical Expertise

  • Polarimetry, photometry, and spectroscopy of the Solar system small bodies

  • Light scattering by particles and surfaces

  • Astronomical observations, technique, and methods
